I'm happy to announce the upcoming re-issue of my travel memoir, The Palace of the Snow Queen, first published in 2007 by Counterpoint Press. The University of Minnesota Press will be publishing the original edition in paper and e-book format with a new cover and a new afterword in October, 2023. Although it's been in stock and available for most of these years, it's wonderful to think it will have a new life soon. In the afterword I've also been able to talk about some of the changes I've seen and experienced in the Nordic countries since I spent my first winters in Lapland and Sápmi twenty years ago. Many of them have to do with climate change and mining in the area of Kiruna, Sweden. Others have to do with continued Sámi resolve to preserve traditional territories free from over-large windfarms, mines, dumping of tailings into fjords and lakes, and damaging logging.
